Celebrating simplicity in its most exquisite forms, we are proud to introduce our Everyday Extraordinary capsule collection, an array of goods for life and home made in Japan and available at Alternative stores for a limited time.
The products featured in our curated collection are the result of a modern exploration of Japanese monozukuri, or manufacturing, reflecting Japan’s deep history in craftsmanship and quality through the lens of simplicity. Spanning everything from cooking and serving ware to plush towels and travel bags, these functional and beautiful tools for living bring the extraordinary into your everyday.
The collection features products from visionaries who are shaping the monozukuri movement, including Nakagawa Masashichi Shouten, a pioneering purveyor of traditional Japanese wares on the cusp of celebrating its 300th year in business. By applying modern day business know-how to traditional industries, it is leading the revitalization of the Japanese crafts industry, bringing Japanese design and quality to a worldwide audience.
One Kiln Ceramics, located in Kagoshima, Japan, creates 100% handmade tablewares that reflect the concept of “the sun to a table,” functional pieces designed to bring happiness to those who use them in their daily lives. Founder and artist Yusuke Kido was born and raised in Kagoshima, an area close to a volcanic region of Japan. Blending locally sourced minerals and ash to impart unique textures and colors to his creations, Kido imbues a sense of place into each piece, creating products that bridge traditional Japanese craft and fine art.
Explore the Everyday Extraordinary collection in our stores and join us on June 13th from 4-10pm in our Hayes Valley store for a special collection debut featuring small bites by The Tables and traditional Japanese tea by Susumuya. RSVP here.
